A Special Opportunity
The Training Center at Philmont Scout Ranch provides a unique environment for the training of thousands of Scouting volunteer leaders. The Priesthood Leadership Conference convenes under the direction of the Young Men General Presidency and the General Scouting Committee of the Church. The faculty, selected from the Young Men General Board and Primary General Presidency and Board, provides training in the program and administration of Scouting as a supporting activity of the Aaronic Priesthood and Primary.
June 29 – July 5, 2013 OR
July 6 – 12, 2013The conference begins Saturday with arrival between 2:00 – 4:00 pm and concludes Friday morning following an early breakfast.
Mailings An invitation from the First Presidency to attend as well as information concerning the 2013 Philmont Leadership Conference will be sent to every stake president in the United States and Canada in fall 2012. 2012 information will be posted until after those letters are sent.
Registration The stake president is welcome to copy the packet of information and distribute throughout the stake. Individuals are also welcome to download the information from this website as well. Anyone may register for Philmont; however, it depends on the applicant’s current Church leadership position whether he is accepted immediately or placed on a waiting list.
PHILMONT PARTICIPATION POLICY: The LDS Scouting Leadership Conference at Philmont is for STAKE PRESIDENCY members and their families. Due to the high demand to attend the conference, only stake presidency members will be immediately registered. In addition, if members of the stake presidency register and would like a high councilor and/or stake Young Men president to attend with them, those applications will be immediately accepted as long as space is available. All other applications will be placed on a waiting list.
When openings occur, wait list applicants will be contacted by the LDS-BSA Relationships office. If you are a high councilor or stake Young Men president, encourage your stake presidency to submit their applications and you will all be accepted to the conference as long as space is available.
In addition, Philmont is a family experience as well as a marvelous training opportunity. Each priesthood leader is encouraged to bring his wife and family to Philmont.
Stake Representation A stake may be represented by more than one individual. All six positions listed above may attend at the same time. However, an individual may attend only once every three years, giving others an opportunity to attend.
Family Participation An attractive feature of the training conference is that it is a family vacation! Full-day activities with leaders are provided for each group.
